Meetings Committee — includes the VGP Secretary and two or more others
responsible for organizing VGP sessions at the fall and spring meetings, plus
fall and spring VGP Press Officers who identify either sessions or individual
papers that are especially press-worthy.

and Outreach Committee
— judges presentations for Best
Student Paper awards at the Fall and Spring Meetings. This is the
largest committee in VGP. AGU has a vigorous Committee on Education and
Human Resources (CEHR). Jill Karsten, the AGU
staff person assigned to CEHR and who now serves as principal contact for our
section, has worked with CEHR to substantially increase the education component
at fall and spring meetings. VGP would like to expand the role of our
committee both in the realm of education and in outreach.

Nominations Committee — AGU elections take place every two
years. The VGP Nominations Committee is charged with identifying two
candidates for Secretary and two for President-elect of the section. A new
committee will be appointed to identify
candidates for the 2008-2010 term.

Awards Committees — VGP has five awards committees that solicit
nominations for awards and also recommend candidates for the Bowen and Kuno
Awards to the VGP officers and for Fellows to the AGU Fellows
Committee. The Union Committee was added in 2004 in order to solicit
nominations for other Union medals and awards (e.g., Hess Medal, Bucher
Medal, etc., exclusive of the Macelwane Medal).
